NLGL Education in action
Preparing tomorrow’s students means educators need to develop student’s reading, writing, speaking, analytical, and creative skills. This is a huge task for educators, but together--we can all seek to prepare our students to be productive innovators in today’s society. Through the application of what I have learned in the NLGL program I practice educating my student’s using current pedagogy in the field of new literacies to help prepare the 21st century leaders of tomorrow (both educators and students alike).
I have presented a compilation of examples of student work implementing all areas of my exploration of my over-arching question of implementing tech and web 2.0 to increase literacy and student engagement (i.e. inquiry-based learning, global citizenship, collaboration, and leadership). I presented at the MEGA conference at the Friday Institute on May 4th, 2011 with some of my 7th graders from Centennial Campus Magnet Middle School. Our objective was to provide examples of low and high tech approaches to improve literacy and engagement (particularly in social studies). My students and I enjoyed conversing with other educators and students and discussed our learning experiences thus far. I am excited to continue to pursue professional development in the area of technology and web 2.0 and hope to continue to share this with other educators and students.
